LOOK & FEEL | Quality Considerations
BUD SIZE Let’s face it, size matters! To be sure not to disappoint, every lot is pre-sorted and any small “popcorn” buds removed.
COLOR Healthy, high-quality buds should feature vibrant colours. Poor quality flower is usually blander and mostly brown/beige or yellow in color - signs that it came from an unhealthy plant or that it is “old weed” and has oxidised over time.
TRICHOME COVERAGE AND INTEGRITY Quality buds should be covered in trichomes that shine like diamonds. Under magnification, the round heads of the trichomes should be intact, with the majority being cloudy white and some amber in color.
TRIM No one likes to have to “toss the salad” - A quality trim should preserve the structure of the buds while removing all leaves and excess stem. Extra care should be taken to maintain the integrity of the trichome heads. Hand trimming remains the best technique to achieve this!
The SMOKE AND BURN - a clean & smooth smoke is said to produce a white ash after burning. This is achieved through an effective “flush” at the end of the growth cycle, a slow, controlled drying process, followed by a multi-week “cure” where moisture levels, texture and flavor are dialed in.
EFFECTS & INTENSITY Depending on the strain's cannabinoid profile, potency, terpenes "entourage effect", the intensity can vary from low to HaF. This is a personal very personal measurement which may be influenced by user tolerance and other objective factors.
THE EXPERIENCE | Quality Considerations
FLAVOUR | It’s all about the terps!
TERPENES are unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of many plants, including cannabis. These compounds create characteristic aromas such as citrus, pine and lavender, as well as more potent odors like skunk, earth or cheese - Check out our terp-cons for a quick visual of the most common terps!
PERCENTAGE Terpenes percentage and profile play a significant role in the overall intensity of the smell, taste, and experience - the higher the total terpene percentage the better with ~1% considered low and ~5% very high.
Strains carry signature terp profiles, however their prevalence can be heavily influenced through specific grow, dry and cure techniques.
